My Dad

Today is Father's Day, a day to honor my Dad for all of his hard work and self-less living. My dad is among one of the greatest men I know.  He is a dedicated father and husband, what a better day than today to brag about my dad.  Here are just a handful of great memories of my dad.

In our home, shopping was a family affair.  He would wait for us as we, my mom, my sister, and I would go shopping and try on lots of clothes.  He was never one of those "bored" dads just sitting in a chair waiting for us to get done, nope not my dad.  He would stay close to us and as soon as we saw something we wanted to try on he would extend his pointer finger and we would place the hanger his finger so we could have both hands free to shop.  He also had no problem holding a purse or three if needed.  He was not embarrassed but proud to be with his wife and girls, spending quality time together, because that is was mattered.

One time in gym class we were studying basketball and my grade for the final was hugely impacted by the number of baskets you could make.  So 5 baskets out of 5 was an A, 4 out of 5 a B, and so on.  Well, being not even 5 feet tall, basketball wasn't really my best sport and making baskets was certainly not my forte.  My dad took me out and we practiced and practiced, my shooting did improve but when the test day came I didn't do so well.  I think I ended up with a D.  My dad continued to affirm me and encourage me and let me know he wasn't too pleased with that grading system, but was proud of me for giving it my best.  Because that is all that mattered to him.  If I gave it my best 'shot' that is all that mattered.

For years my Dad was a Sunday School teacher at church. I had to have been about 5 and I remember regularly bringing a teenage boy, who was in my dad's sunday school class and taking him to church with us.   Years passed and we went to this young man's wedding, now this man, his wife and children are missionarys in the Middle East.  I wonder what if my dad would have been too busy to bring this teenager that didn't have it all together to church?  What if he would have been too busy to teach Sunday School?  My dad remained faithful with whatever task was required of him, and he would go above and beyond, just because.

My dad is someone you want to be around.  He loves life and he loves his the family. The grandkids adore their "Papa."  He always makes time to play ball, a computer game, or whatever they are into at that time. He is the worlds GREATEST father and Grandfather.  My children are blessed and highly favored to have him as their grandfather and I have been and am still blessed to have my father in my life today.  Daddy I love you and I'm so glad God let me be your little girl!
